COMMERCE 3S03 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: The Blind, Conscientiousness, Extraversion And Introversion
Document Summary
It is difficult to see one"s own characteristics objectively. Perceptual distortions are often in our favour. Self-awareness is essential to being an effective manager. Self-awareness: means being aware of the internal aspects of one"s nature, such as personality traits, beliefs, emotions, values, strengths, and limitations, and appreciating how your patterns affect other people. Achieved by recognizing your needs, traits, patterns, preferences, and limitations. They can use their talents to the fullest, work around their limitations, and develop rich, satisfying, and meaningful relationships with others. It is said that there are three ways to enhance yourself-awareness: soliciting feedback, self- diagnosis, and self-disclosure. Soliciting feedback: our perceptions of ourselves are shaped by how others perceive us. A manager might consider himself to be patient and understanding, but his employees may see that he is easily irritated and unsympathetic. We all have illusions about ourselves, so we need help from others to accurately assess who we are.
