Strategic management: process to address the organizations competitive challenges, which results in the strategy outcome: process with a goal, strategies will have to change from time to time. Story of how the firm will create value for customers and how it will do so profitably. Four levels of integration (linkages) between hr and strategic management: administrative linkage- no clue: strategic does there thing, hr does there thing and there is no connection. They are focusing on transactional activities. (outdated, not what should be happening: one- way linkage- just do it: strategic planning comes up with strategy and turns to hr and say get it done. Better but not ideal: two- way linkage- give us your thoughts: tentative plan developed by strategic management and hr is asked for their input.
