Document Summary
Communication is the process by which information is exchanged between a sender and a receiver. Such errors lead to a lack of correspondence between the sender"s initial thoughts and the receiver"s understanding of the intended message. Encoding and decoding may be prone to even more error when the message is inherently ambiguous or emotional. Effective communication occurs when the right people receive the right information in a timely manner: violating any of these three conditions results in a communication episode that is ineffective. The lines on an organizational chart represent lines of authority and reporting relationships: in theory, organizational communication could stick to this strict chain of command, under this system, there are three necessary forms of communication can be accomplished. Downward communication flows from the top of the organization toward the bottom. Upward communication flows from the bottom of the organization toward the top.
