Discuss the impact of book 9 of the odyssey. Starts the odyssey 10 years after the fall of troy. In medias res (in the middle of the action) Choose a very dramatic point in the story to start. *home is trying to get the attention of the reader. Homer then switches the attention away from o which is giving a cliffhanging affect by making you hold on for the adventure with o. Goes from council of gods where they sent hermes to free o while athena goes to visit t and we don"t find out about o again until the fourth book. Homer achieves suspence by switching away from the main action. *homer"s listeners would have known that o got back but they don"t know how he deals with every issue and that"s where homer raises attention and suspence. Rather than following the chronological order homer uses flashbacks to describe what happened earlier.
