Thetis, with the sea nymphs, heads to troy and confronts achilles about why he grieves. Achilles tells his mother that he blames zeus for all of this and that he no longer sees value in life because one of his best friends has died. Achilles hopes to gain revenge on hector and kill him. Thetis tells achilles that it is fated that his own death will follow hectors: achilles blames himself for patroclus" death; saying he should have swallowed his bread and helped his men in battle.
