Unemployment: when a person who is actively searching for employment is unable to find work. There are four types of unemployment: structural, seasonal, frictional and demand deficient. At present canada"s unemployment rate is 7. 2% and is calculated by dividing the number of unemployed people by the total labour force. The pictorial to the right shows the comical desperation of people who want a job. Macroeconomics: the study of the effects on the national and global economy of the choices that individuals, businesses, and governments make. Topics included in the study of macroeconomics include international trade and gross domestic product. Monetary policy: a policy created by a central bank, currency board, or other regulation committee that determines the size and growth rate of the money supply, which in turns affects interest rates. Canada"s monetary policy prides itself on maintaining an inflation rate at 2%. The image on the right shows the various aspects to the monetary policy.
