ANTHROP 3FA3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 13: Blunt Trauma, Greenstick Fracture, Bone Fracture
Document Summary
Alteration: any change to the physical properties of a bone. Trauma: refers to the physical disruption of living tissues by outside forces. Conclusions from the analysis of skeletal trauma including the timing of the trauma relative to the death event and the mechanisms or type of force that caused the trauma. Time can be categorized as antemortem (before death) or perimortem (around time of death) Postmortem are not considered trauma (no living tissue) Trauma mechanism categorized as blunt force, high velocity projectile, sharp force, thermal or some combination of these categories. Trauma analysis involves careful observation, thorough documentation and cautious interpretation requires interdisciplinary approach including physics, biomechanics and engineering. Skeletal trauma results from the application of force science of mechanics; relationship between force and deformation is one of the primary principles in bone fracture mechanics. Load and deformation are linearly proportional until the proportional limit or yield point is reached, at which point the slope is decreased.
