Quarries were a common source of larger stones for building or monuments. Most important organic materials if wood is preserved it can show tool marks to show how it was worked. Rarely survive except in very dry or wet enviros. Microwear analysis comb w experimental arc are most successful means of determining if it is actually human made. Until recently, all synthetic things were based on the control of fire: first used in open fire but that lead to the development of a kiln. How were they made: through coils not through wheel, firing techniques can be seen by looking at the end result. If glazed heated at 900 c: extent of oxidation. If completely oxidized it will all be same colour. If the core is dark, the temp or time was too little. Iron is found in nature more often: but more difficult to reduce to separate from oxygen.
