Explanations for why aggression occurs vary according to whether it is hostile or instrumental aggression. Hostile aggression: behavior intended to harm another, either physically or psychologically, and motivated by feelings of anger and hostility. Genocide in rwanda: hutus seeking revenge on tutsis out of anger about past hostilities. Instrumental aggression: behavior intended to harm another in the service of motives other than pure hostility (for example, to attract attention, to acquire wealth, or to advance political and ideological causes). The hutus were seeking to displace the more powerful tutsis. The certain circumstances and situations release people"s aggressive tendencies: heat. Craig anderson has provided evidence that higher-than-normal temperatures are associated with increased aggression. First, there are higher rates of violent crimes in hotter regions. The number of hot days was a strong predictor of elevated violent crime rates but not nonviolent crime rates. In addition, there are more violent during hot months. One explanation assigns a prominent role to attributional processes.
