Field of social cognition is the study of how people think about the social world and arrive at judgments that help them interpret the past, understand the present and predict the future. Mistakes that ppl make in judgment provide helpful clues about how ppl think about others and make inferences about them hints about the strategies or rules that ppl follow to make judgments. Mistakes can tell us about how a system works by showing its limitations. Showed participants a large number of faces, had them rate how trustworthy, competent, likeable, attractive each person seemed. Some ppts were given as much time as they wanted and others were only allowed to see the face for a second, half second or tenth of a second.
