One way to explain anti americanism is to argue that soviet leaders are frustrated by the limits the us sets on soviet imperial ambitions. Palestinian interests: soviets argue israel overconfident, not insecure, too strong, leaders see no need to compromise, stability that israel has established only an illusion, turmoil and domination will not last. Israeli power simply not that great: best course is to redress arab disadvantage and press for a compromise solution where they accept each other"s rights to exist. July 1984 soviet put forth 6-point plan for peace in me: return of occupied territories and dismantling of settlement. Israel rejects: different from soviet proposal, intended to exclude the su and syria from negotiations, not terribly different from american plan though, very similar, soviet plan unacceptable to major arab allies.
