7. 6 vision: eye only sensitive to wavelengths of light between 400-750nm (visible spectrum) White, connective tissue capsule except at cornea where clear. Front of it specialized into iris (gives color to eyes), ciliary muscle & zonular fibers (determine diameter of pupil and curving lens) Pupil is anterior opening that allows light into eye. Chambers: anterior chamber: fluid-filled (aqueous humor), between iris & cornea, posterior chamber: filled with vitreous humor, between lens & retina. Iris: color iris not important --tissue must just be opaque enough to prevent passage of light. Iris composed of 2 layers of smooth muscles innervated by autonomic nerves. Retina & photoreceptors: light-sensitive portions of photoreceptor cells face away from incoming light, light must pass through all cells of retina before reaching, 20% volume retina made of muller cells --glial, abundance 1:1 with cone cells and. Visual pathways: nonretinal inputs can control transmission info from retina to visual cortex.
