JWST 240 Chapter Notes - Chapter reading: Reinhard Heydrich, Operation Reinhard, Razor Strop
Document Summary
Within months of the wannsee conference in january 1942, four new killing centers were in operations and all of them, like. Chelmno, were in areas that had a significant jewish population. The killing center at chelmno was located in territory that was part of the annexation of poland. It was a small village on a railway branch line and an unoccupied castle was useful as the headquarters for the killing process. Trains brought jews from surrounding areas to chelmno and then drove them to the courtyard of the castle. They were ordered to strop, wash and pushed into the door labeled "washroom" into the gas vans. About 90 were in a van at once where they drove into the woods and then dumped the bodies. The germans kept a few jews around the unload the corpses and bury the bodies and these were known as the special units.
