Relig revival based on charismatic leadership and spirituality. Deep connection to the presence of god in mundane acts. Music, yiddish lang, physical prayer were important. Increasing denunciation of hasidism/forbidding of intermingling--tho this had little effect and hasidism b/came popular. Lithuanian jewry"s most prestigious academy of talmud study. Study undertaken for spiritual reasons--not training rabbis.
