Is surprised to see that he"s not observant @ all. Follows him 2 herd the next day. Sees that he doesn"t eat w/out acknowledging god. Is untaught in relig, but does his best to please god by playing flute. Old stranger not understanding rebbe"s talk abt torah. Man sad bc he hasn"t had time for relig, can"t follow holy words. Now in old age, has more time, wants to study torah. Rebbe uses song to help him understand, clarifies discourse. Don"t go into the mud in the first place. Rebbe asked to decide debate btwn hasidim, instead tells story. Story is of wagon driver who thinks he knows how to get wagon out of mud in any circumstance.
