Ferdinand was opposed, but isabella/priests were vehement. Isabella accused ferdinand of being jewish himself, so he advocated for their expulsion as well. Jews given 3 months to leave or convert, or they would b killed. Jews mourned news, which came close to passover. Jewish elders appealed to monarchs, but were ignored. The king decided that jews must leave some of their property in taxes and their best land to the crown. Jews leaving country also invalidated debts owed to them by non-jews. Thousands of jews converted, whether willingly or not. Many high officials opposed the banishment of jews.
