The aeneid was started in 31 bce and left unfinished after the vergil"s death in 19 bce. He requested that the manuscript be burned, the work was cared for his will"s executer. Augustus wanted to ensure that the aeneid was published. There are elements of incompleteness such as narrative repetition and 58 unfinished verses that vergil called props to support parts of the narrative structure. It is composed in 12 books written in dactylic hexameter lines and just under 10,000 verses. It is the same meter as the iliad. The aeneid is from to trojan side of the war. It talks about the myth of aeneas as he leaves troy to fulfill his destiny to found a new city in italy. Correspond with the odyssey in theme and plot. There is the wandering of a hero trying to find home, not his previous home, but his new home.
