ENGL-297 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Free Writing
Document Summary
To free write, you have to force yourself to write without stopping for 10 minutes or so. There may be good writing produced, but it is not the goal of free writing. There"ll be bad, jumbled writing as well, but it"s not the goal. You might stay on one topic, or jump from one to another but it doesn"t make a difference. You might be able to have a perfect flow of your consciousness, but most of the time you might have trouble keeping up. It"s not about speed but free writing can rev you up. If you can"t think of anything to write about, you can repeat "i don"t know what to write" or even "no". If you"re stuck in the middle of writing a sentence or a thought, you can repeat the last phrase/word you repeated. The goal is to continue and keep writing. It"s about the process and not the product.
