Values possible observations of the variable: the values of statistics exam marks are the integers between 0 and 100 (assuming the exam is marked out of 100) Data the observed values of a variable: 67, 74, 71, 83, 93 these are the observed midterm marks for 5 students, from data, we will extract the information in which we seek! Datum the singular term for data: the mark of one student is a datum. Interval data are real numbers, such as heights, weights, incomes, and distances. Interval data is referred to as quantitative or numerical, and the intervals or differences between values of interval data are consistent and meaningful. Nominal data are categories, such as responses to questions about marital status.
