Gender is an activity, something what we do: perform all the time; always engaged in doing. Sex: determined by applying socially-agreed upon criteria, used to classify humans, males = testosterone, genitalia, adam"s apple. Sex category: something established and sustained through everyday displays and acts. Gender: activity of managing sex category with regard to hegemonic standards. Jobs often linked to sex category: nurse : male nurse, make assumptions about particular occupations. For many, gender display is conventional, corresponds to sex category, but not for all! Gender display: child shown image of person in suit and tie (markers of male sex category)
