Jewish called it torah = instructions from god. First five books of the bible called the pentateuch (greek translation for 5 books) No one/no proof identifying moses as their writer. Exodus deuteronomy -> mains figure of story is moses: final chapter is farewell and death and burial of moses. Four sources : jedp: 1870s german schloar julius wellhausen, theory of documentary hypothesis. Identifying each different sources by how they speak of god: also kind of things they are concerned and interested about. J, the yahwist (10th century: composed around the 10th century (b. c. e) about the time of king david, uses yah(cid:449)eh as god"s (cid:374)a(cid:373)e re(cid:448)ealed to moses to refer to god. Anthromorphic: inanimate objects, animals to attribute human characteristics. The jerusalem bible and the new jerusalem use yahweh. E the elohist: begins abraham narrative, e because it uses the word elohim. It appears in the e source -> abraham in genesis 20: angels and dreams represent presence of god.
