My lectures on egocentrism followed the reading by gilovich and colleagues, and so you are familiar with all the important points, save two. On page 250 (original pagination), they describe a study by kruger & gilovich. They summarize the findings by saying that participants were not purely self-interested agents but were strong self-interest theorists. You should be familiar with the results of this study. Couples correctly anticipated that their spouse would claim more than their fair share of credit for activities that reflect positively on the person who performs them. Therefore, it didn"t surprise p"s that their spouse would overestimate responsibility for. Spending time on appearance to please one"s partner . Social perceivers may have at least some understanding that judgments of responsibility may be biased so far, so good.
