PSYC 364 Chapter Notes - Chapter 12: Prospective Memory, Retrospective Memory, Metacognition
Document Summary
We use a lot of different memory strategies. When you use a memory strategy, you perform mental activities that can help to improve your encoding and retrieval they help you remember something that you"ve learned in the past. Foresight bias: when people have been studying for a future exam, and they are overconfident about how they will perform on this exam. You"ll remember less if you try to cram and learn material at once. Its helpful because it introduces desirable difficulties: a learning situation that is somewhat challenging but not too difficult. If you allow several minuts to pass before the second repetition, youll pay more attention to that concept, and the task will be a little more difficult because you will have already begun to forget. Youll make some mistakes, and you will not be overconfident that you have mastered the concepts.
