Psychology a little more than a century old as a formal disciple subject came before psychology was a science. History as a key to understanding the future our judgements of the future. Freud the less we know about the past + the present, the more insecure must prove. History offers patterns when properly viewed may prove consequential to understanding and controlling present + future. Psychologists who appreciate their history may be in a better position to understand the discipline while anticipating future trends. History as a way to enrich the present. Freedom that comes with healthy + functional memory also intellectual freedom that comes with a broad historical perspective. Extreme emphasis on present leaves us naive + uninformed in an isolated temporal prison. Neglect the past = impoverish the present. Study of history nourishes a liberal + informed perspective. Robert i watson history helps us overcome narrow, provincial, class + regional.
