COMM 222 Chapter 3: module 3
Document Summary
The process of interpreting the messages of our senses to provide order and meaning to the environment. Helps us sort out and organize the complex and varied input received by our senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing. People usually base their actions on the interpretation of reality that their perceptual system provides, rather than reality itself. Ex: you perceive your pay to be really low, so you switch firms, however you were the highest paid employee in the department. Most important perceptions that influence organizational behaviour are the perceptions that organizational members have of each other. 3 components: a perceiver, target that is being perceived, and situational context in which the perception is occurring. Their experience, needs, and emotions can affect his or her perceptions of a target. Experience is the most important characteristic that influences the perceivers impression of the target.
