Gen x (1965-1980: independent, adaptable, creative, techno-literate, willing to challenge the status quo, preferred leadership: direct, competent, genuine, informal, flexible, results- oriented, supports learning opportunities. Millennials or gen y (1981-2000: optimistic, able to multitask, tenacious, technologically savvy, driven to learn and grow, team-oriented, socially responsible, preferred leadership: motivational, collaborative, positive, educational, organized, achievement-oriented, able to coach. Most research points to more similarities than differences in values across generations. Some indication that gen x and y are more inclined to value money, status, and rapid career growth than are boomers.
