Document Summary

Two people are generally considered a dyad rather than a group. Groups are more than a bunch of people who happen to be occupying the same spacegroups are people who have assembled together for a common purpose. Example: citizens meeting up to solve a community crime. Example: people who have gathered to blow off steam at a party. Family, campus groups, sports teams, churches and classes all count as groups because you interact with the other group members and you are interdependent, in the sense that you influence them and they influence you. Argue that in our evolutionary past, there was a substantial survival advantage to establishing bonds with other people. People who bonded together were better able to hunt and grow food, find mates and care for children page 237: consequently, the need to belong has become innate and is present in all societies.
