Gain sympathy from those that have the ability to help their cause of address heir. News coverage firstly looks at institutional political actors over movement actors because newsrooms are often centralized on politics and the voice of prominent actors have more impact. Given this, movement actors are often less influential. According to a study, newspapers tend to report collective action when it is large, violent, geographically close to the newspaper and or draws on the participation f larger groups. Coverage of protest and political action is like validation for collective action events as they become known to political officials. While coverage is not comprehensive, it can tell us important data regarding how protests and events are polices, the diffusion of tactics, and how it is influenced by political agendas.
