Important that young persons are made aware of the connection between their crime and the effect that crime had on the victim and the community. Youth justice system should focus on repairing harm caused. Meaningful consequences was introduced in response to high rate of youth incarceration for minor offences. Ycja provided sequential approach to youth justice. S. 38 sers out long term protection of society though sanctions that hold a young person accountable through meaningful consequences. Police are required to consider if it would be suf cient to 1: warn the young person, administer a caution, make referral to community program.
