Cardiovascular disease (cvd): diseases of the heart and blood vessels. 30% of deaths worldwide are a result of cardiovascular disease. You can reduce your risk of cvd by controlling high blood pressure and reducing your dietary intake of saturated fats and cholesterol. Cardiovascular system: network of elastic tubes that blood flows through as it carries oxygen and nutrients to all parts of the body. The human body contains approximately 6l of blood. Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, waste products, hormones and enzymes. It regulates temperature, water levels and acidity levels. Received blood from the rest of the body. Ventricles: two lower chambers of the heart and pumps blood out to the body. Tricuspid valve: located between the right atrium and right ventricle. Pulmonary valve: located between the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. Bicuspid valve: between the left atrium and left ventricle.
