Document Summary
Dualism: the philosophical view that reality consists of two equal and irreducible forces. Ex: the separation between mind and body (cartesian dualism). Binary opposition: a pair of opposites used as an organizing principle (ying-yang, body-soul, male - female) Idealism: the philosophical view that pure, incorruptible ideas, or the mind that produces such ideas, constitutes the essence of human nature. The body is a material obstacle that prevents full development of the mind or spirit. Materialism: the philosophical view that the activities of our bodies in the material world constitute the essence of human nature. Materialism states that to put spiritual values above physical needs would be against human nature. Materialism and idealism propose competing forms of determinism. Materialists argue that human nature is determined by the casual force of physical matter. Determinism: the philosophical view that one simple force (or a few simple forces ) cause (determine)complex events. The idea that u can explain couples relationships with one single force.
