Document Summary

Most of the characters in the play use wit in their language, but in diferent forms. Andrews conversations with everyone he meets that make him appear foolish. There is also however, bawdy humour that a number of the characters in the play contribute to. Upon reading malvolio"s interpretation of the letter i did not understand what he meant by spelling out those speciic letters and so i assumed that he was spelling out a word. After looking it up i learned that during that time period, the word cut referred to female genitals. It was strange to see a character as stif and uptight as malvolio make that kind of reference when attempting to prove that this letter was written by olivia because it is not very consistent with his personality. The play has many examples of moments like this where characters say things that have double meanings, one of which is sexual.
