Unit 6: youth experiences related to education and social. Academic self concept: feelings, aitudes, and percepions that students hold about their academic ability especially when compared to those of other students. Self-handicapping in classroom: development of negaive aitudes toward school and downplaying the importance of academic success may lead students to engage in variety of behaviours that protect or enhance their self concept/image. Creaing barriers to successful performance prior to (or simultaneous with) an achievement task. In an intrinsically oriented system, people will be moivated to engage in an aciivity not for external rewards but simply for internal enjoyment. Self percepion theory: we infer our own aidues and beliefs by observing our acions in a detached and logical way. According to this theory, when we receive a reward for doing something we enjoy w/o compensaion, we start to atribute our behavior to the reward rather than the enjoyment (intrinsic factor).
