Document Summary

Lack a synovial cavity: the articulating bones are held very closely together by dense irregular connective tissue, permit little or no movement, the three types of fibrous joints . Sutures: composed of a thin layer of dense irregular connective tissue, occur only between bones of the skull, have irregular, interlocking edges that gives them added strength and decreases their chance of fracturing. Lacks a synovial cavity: allows little or no movement, articulating bones are tightly connected by either hyaline cartilage or fibrocartilage. Intervertebral joints between the bodies of vertebrae: a symphysis is a slightly movable joint (amphiarthrosis) Synovial fluid: secreted by the synovial membrane, a viscous, clear or pale yellow fluid, consists of, hyaluronic acid secreted by synovial cells in the synovial membrane. Accessory ligaments, articular discs, and labra: accessory ligaments, found in many synovial joints, extracapsular ligaments lie outside of the articular capsule, ex. the fibular and tibial collateral ligaments of the knee joint.
