State regulation of the employment relationship is an important rule-making process. Main regulatory activities --> minimum standards: statutory regulation by parliament, delegation regulation by tribunals who are delegated the responsibility by parliament. Identify and discuss the key elements of the "state regulation" in general and the distinguishing features of the different types of state regulation. State regulation: rule-making in which the state dominates. Underlying feature = parliaments using legislation to directly lay down minimum standards which employers and employees are legally obliged to meet failure to comply --> legal action + sanctions. The making of rules of the employment relationship - mostly substantive but also procedural - by the legislature and embodied in legislation.
