Disabled people are marginalised from normal people, and for a long-time people with disabilities were killed because of their disability. Two models medical and social were used to explain disability. The medical model views disability as an impairment and something needed to be treated, and also something to be avoided. The social model views disability as something created by able-bodied people and as a society we should do everything we can to help disabled people fit in. " people with impairments continue to be disabled by a society dominated by the norms and values set by people without impairments. People with disabilities have been encouraged to participate in sport and physical activity, but it was mainly a form of physical or psychological therapy. Ludwig guttmann established paralympic sport in stoke mandeville in 1948. His games were established for those with spinal cord injuries. Very few disabled people participate in sport compared to able-bodied people.
