The tuskegee syphilis study examined the course of a disease in untreated individuals. They were told they were being treated for the disease but they weren"t. Doctors were told not to give a treatment to them. The ethical guidelines used today are based on the nuremberg code. Back then, it was only applied to medical research. The apa decided to develop their own ethical guidelines. Milgram"s study was valuable to society but was ethically questionable. Participants were put under psychological stress and learned things about themselves they would have preferred not to know. Typically made up on several faculty members from diverse backgrounds and members of the community. An application is lodged detailing the study"s method, risks and benefits to participants, means of maintaining confidentiality. Not to evaluate scientific merit but the treatment of participants.
