La crosse lac encephalitis: zoonosis mammal/mosquito cycle, transmitted by aedes triseriatus. Like to breed in tree holes / will use tires as breeding ground. Mosquito habitat near humans to infect: life cycle. Small mammals (chipmunks) aedes feeds replicates in midgut. Disperses goes to salivary glands and replicates feed on next host. Also disseminates to ovaries and infects eggs lays eggs infected male or female mosquitoes. Can be transferred from male mosquito to female by venereal transmission. Dengue fever: human/mosquito cycle, most important mosquito borne virus in the world. Expanding everywhere, very rapidly: aedes aegypti, once called break bone fever causes severe bone pain. Now starting to have a hemorrhagic form of dengue fever fatal. Once thought from having more than 1 type of dengue fever, this is not so: 4 distinct serotypes of dengue fever, was on brink of extinction. Came back because decline in vector control programs, collapsed public health infrastructure, urbanization, pesticide resistant vectors, economics, politics, ect.
