Girl walking in the cold on new year s eve. She had pair of slippers when she left home, but they were her mother s and too big for her. She lost them when crossing the street. One was lost and the other was snatched by a boy. She was carrying bundle of matches and nobody bought any all day. She refused to go home b/c afraid father would beat her for not selling any matches + her house was almost as cold as street. She took match and lit it to warm up: match become a big iron stove w/ brass fixtures very warm, shortly after, match burned out and stove disappeared. She struck another match and she could see into the house. She saw table spread w/ damask cloth and set w/ finest porcelain. Roasted goose on table and goose jumped off table and waddled toward her as she stretched out her arms the match burned out.
