In other words, syncretism means the blending of religions. Africa because it explains why many people who profess to follow a major religion such as. Christianity or islam, still maintain a healthy regard for the spirit world and traditional african religious beliefs. For example, a muslim may devoutly follow the five pillars, while at the same time they may follow other religious practices like consulting a traditional healer as long as those practices do not contradict with the five pillars.
