When they saw an eagle on a cactus in a certain region of mexico, they collectively believed it was a sign that they should settle down in that area and build their empire from there. Furthermore, the aztecs created their own principles for agriculture, trade, and architecture, which helped them to establish themselves very well and be extremely successful in this area.
