This stage may last for many years: stage 2, hiv disease, evidenced by weight loss, fevers of unknown origin, chronic fatigue. If the virus progresses to this symptomatic state, the immune system is impaired: stage 3, aids, immune system failure, opportunistic infections and diseases ultimately leading to death. Maintain good habits such as nutrition and exercise aspects. Help them adjust to and cope with stressors associated with living with a chronic and possibly fatal disease. Alleviate the self-worth gap created by loss roles like employment. Reduce feelings of isolation, guilt, social stigma. Education (prevent transmission and allay fears to decrease isolation)
