Distinctive set of traits, behavior styles, and patterns that make up our unique characters. How we perceive the world, our attitudes, thoughts, and feelings are all a part of our personality. Personality is generally very stable and lifelong, and this is why it gets it"s own axis. Pervasive and inflexible patterns of behavior observed across persons, situations, and time. (definition of personality) Personality disorders are presumed to be life-long and unresponsive to treatment. Come to therapy, because they are forces or court order, or family member is threatening to leave them (3 main reasons for coming to therapy) Cluster a - odd or eccentric paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal. Cluster b - dramatic and emotional (see most often in treatment) antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic. Cluster c - anxious or fearful (linked to anxiety disorders) avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive. Diagnostic criteria: a pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others without sufficient basis and. -everyone laughs, they don"t. or laugh at inappropriate times.
