Document Summary

There are a few reasons why certain techniques are beneficial or not beneficial for learning purposes. The lab used segmentation and massing in relation to certain types of skills- specifically juggling. Segmentation involves breaking the target skill down into several parts, performing one and then adding a second and so on until you reach the desired skill. In the lab, the skill of juggling, can be classified as a serial skill that was practiced via progressive part practice and massed practice. The text notes that physical rehearsal containing all elements at once would cause the person to become overwhelmed and perform poorly. This was not the case with us simply because our subjects were experienced with juggling. This was demonstrated by trying to juggle all at once. However when i attempted a few rounds of massing, i was unable to produce the desired results, so this holds true with the assumptions of our text.
