1440s: gutenberg invented the printing press with moveable metal type which allowed for the printing of books and bibles. 1861: the telegraph changed methods of war, reporting about war, and led to the style of newswriting we use today. 1876: alexander graham bell invented the telephone. 1877: the white house got a telephone. 1900: radio became big because it was wireless. Technological convergence is print, audio, video, and digital coming together into one media form. You must have experience with all of these to get a job in media. Traditional forms of media are blurring because they can be accessed on the internet. Synchronous media requires the audience"s attention when it is broadcasted, such as live television and radio. Asynchronous does not require the audience"s attention at the time it is broadcasted, such as magazines and newspapers. Journalism is surveillance of the government"s activities and issues, events, processes, and other developments in society.
