Reports about parenthood are biased toward mothers because most are from mothers, duh. Punishment is all about timing, there has to be an association between the wrongdoing and the spanking. Having your first child is the greatest transition you"ll go through. Have to teach children the rules of what is acceptable behavior. Learning: reinforcement is used to increase positive behavior; punishment is used to decrease unacceptable behavior. When a child is disobedient, spank sparingly. Dr. barber says a sense of connection, rules and boundaries, and individuality are important in raising children. Raising children is like flying a kite. The greatest stressor in life is financial issues. Time is the greatest thing you could ever give your children. Fairness is key in the division of household chores. In 1950, 30% of married women worked. Now 80% of married women and 78% of married men work (is this stat right?) There is very little correlation between wealth and happiness.
