PHL 304 Midterm: Sexuality Test Review
Document Summary
Sexuality test review: conventional sexual morality, conventional = practiced by the most people. This is circular thinking, begging the question: natural ends argument, associated with thomas aquinas. Each thing in nature has a specific purpose. The primary purpose of sexual activity is to produce new life. Any interference with the natural ends is morally wrong, even within marriage: problems: it is not clear that sexual activity only has one important human purpose. What about as an expression of love, or pleasure: utilitarian argument, sex should be confined to marriage because it will be beneficial to us all. There is no overt threat to people and society. Also, there is no connection between the divorce rate and the existence of homosexuals. No sexual activity is immoral unless a well-established moral rule or principle is transgressed: on marriage, being married has nothing to do with permissible sex.
