PSY 101 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, Observational Learning
Document Summary
Learning: experience resulting in a usually permanent change in the learner. Classical conditioning (pavlovian): when an unrelated stimulus makes a response after pairing with stimulus that naturally makes that response (ivan pavlov study- drooling dog and bell) Unconditioned stimulus (us): stimulates natural reaction (innate) Unconditioned response (ur): re exive reaction stimulated by us. Conditioned stimulus (cs): neutral and makes no natural response. Conditioned response (cr): like ur but made by cs. Operant conditioning: type of learning in which the consequences of an organism"s behavior determines whether it will be repeated in the future. Law of effect: principle that behaviors that are followed by a satisfying state of affairs are less likely to be repeated. Thorndike"s experiment: cat placed inside box and was able to see food placed outside box and if cat pressed lever door would open. Operant behavior: behavior that an organism produces has impact on environment.
