The volumes are a study of poverty, inequality, and discrimination. Focus on the united states, developing economies perform very differently. In comparison to the developing world, poverty in the us is a non-issue. Positive economics: the study of economics as it is. Normative economics: the study of economics as it should be. Adds a subjective element based on the values of the economist. If a statement can be definitively be proven true or false then it is an example of positive economics. Five major groups of analysis: measurement, distribution of wealth and income across countries, within the us, and across different geographic regions. Institutions and choices: distinction between fundamental and proximate causes. Specifically investigating which is more important to explaining poverty. Income, and more as possible ways to combat poverty, inequality, and discrimination. The most interesting section of this volume looks like it will be the policy section.
