Document Summary

Types- free recall (all words), serial recall (words in order), cued recall. Primacy effect- remembering the few words in a list but not the ones in the middle. Implicit memory task: completing a task and performance indicates memory. Types: word fragment completion, mirror drawing, tower of hanoi. In single dissociations, a single variable effects one expression of memory, explicit or implicit, but not the other. In double dissociations, a single variable has opposite effects on explicit and implicit memory. 3 stages model of memory: sensory input --- sensory memory - stm--- encoding/retrieval----ltm. Sensory memory: very limited duration, keeps only what is processed, depends on attention. Backwards visual masking: iconic memory can be overwritten by new stimuli but waiting too long loses the masking effect. Whole report method: when asked to identify as many letters as possible, people could only report a few.
